Mercer University School of Medicine was founded in 1982 to educate physicians and health professionals to meet the primary care and health care needs of rural and medically underserved areas of Georgia. In support of this mission, the department of community medicine is comprised of 12 full time faculty, 5 staff, and 250 volunteer community-based physicians. These individuals support undergraduate medical education on both the Macon and Savannah Campuses and administer a MPH Program.
The department of community medicine seeks an individual to lead this young department in the expansion and improvement of its curricular, service, and scholarly activity initiatives. Candidates should possess a doctoral degree in public health or related field or the MD degree with additional training and experience in public health, preventive medicine, and/or community medicine. An established record of leadership in education, service, administration, and scholarly activity is expected, as well as commitment to and knowledge of the needs of rural and medically underserved communities.
