POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
CHAIR OF FAMILY MEDICINE
The University of Vermont, in alliance with Fletcher Allen Health Care, is seeking applications or nominations for outstanding candidates for the chair of family medicine. The chair will be responsible for the development and oversight of the clinical, educational, and research programs of the department.
The chair will also serve as the Health Care Service Leader of family medicine at Fletcher Allen Health Care, a health care system comprised of a 500-bed, acute care hospital with a total attending staff of approximately 685. Fletcher Allen Health Care recently opened a new ambulatory care center and has approximately 500 specialty and primary care physicians practicing at more than 40 sites throughout the region.
The department of family medicine has 32 faculty serving the region in 5 practice sites and supported by 108 staff. The family medicine Residency, with 18 residents was accredited for 5 years in a 2009 survey by the ACGME. Within the Academic Medical Center primary care is valued highly as evidenced by the ranking of 6th in Primary Care Education in the latest U.S. News & World Reports. In addition, there is broad support for the department with 165 part-time clinical faculty located throughout Vermont.
The applicant should have demonstrable skills as a physician leader, be Board Certified in family medicine, and have substantial experience in the clinical, administrative, teaching, and research activities of an academic department of family medicine. Academic achievement in the area of health outcomes research or delivery system redesign would be considered advantageous. There is the potential for a tenured appointment for a candidate with the requisite track record and skills.
